Speaker: Cindy Villarreal, Kansas Department of Corrections

Program: Fair Chance Practices

Justice-involved individuals are often overlooked for employment, leaving a motivated and talented workforce on the table in an environment experiencing significant labor shortages. In utilizing this workforce, businesses have a rich opportunity to enhance their talent pool. This interactive session will highlight the benefits of Second Chance/Fair Chance Hiring, and what a partnership with the Kansas Department of Corrections can offer, translating into positive outcomes for both employers and employees. You’ll have the opportunity to interact with a panel of Second Chance employers, justice-involved individuals who have been successful, and KDOC representatives.

Cindy Villarreal, Kansas Department of Corrections, is an Offender Workforce Development and Employment Retention Specialist and certified trainer, with over 20 years’ experience in the field. As part of the KDOC Reentry team, she prepares justice-involved individuals to become productive and valued employees and responsible citizens. She has presented at many levels, including local, regional, and national offender employment conferences, where her workshop was reviewed as being one of the best on the subject due to the practical advice and techniques given towards success in Second Chance and Fair Chance Employment.
